Dead Dead Dead

I’m at a loss as to what I’m supposed to do with myself right now. So far this morning Slashdot is dead or dying with an HTTP503 error, and Google’s still off the map. Ugh.

This Land Was Made for You and Me

There’s a great short film over on Atom Films starring “John Kerry” and “George W. Bush”. I highly recommend watching it regardless of your political persuasion. Did you notice the Dr. Strangelove reference?

An Evening at Safeway

I was at Safeway last night buying a container of shaving cream. It had been four days or so since I last shaved and I was in dire need of it. The couple in front of me in line was really quite interesting.

The woman had a huge hickey on the side of her neck, and her husband was making it really clear that it was only a supreme act of self-control that kept him from taking her right then and there in the middle of the checkout line.

This, in and of itself, is really not that interesting or strange. Instead, what caught my attention were the two items they were purchasing. What type of odd scenario requires a tube of Astroglide lube and a pint of half-and-half? Hmm, on second thought I don’t think I really want that answered.

Then again, maybe they just really like a post-coital cup of coffee.

Sony Consoles

In the interest of clearing up any confusion you may have over the game consoles Sony has released, or plans to release, just refer to this handy listing.

Playstation – A small gray CD-based video game console.

PSX – It depends on who you’re asking. Either the same thing as was listed above, or a hulking $900 PVR/DVD/game console.

PS1 – Contrary to popular belief, this is not identical to the Playstation. This is a wacky, cheap, tiny, white console that replaced the Playstation or PSX.

Playstation 2 or PS2 – Sony’s current game console. Supposedly was going to have enough computing power to display photorealistic 3D images rendered on the fly. The truth fell quite short. Still lacks triggers. Really cool at first, and now just an adornment next to my TV.

Playstation 3 or PS3 – Sony’s next-generation game console. Supposedly will have enough computing power to display photorealistic 3D images rendered on the fly. It will also supposedly make use of grid computing, or some such. The jury’s still out, but I expect to be underwhelmed. Again.

PSP or Playstation Portable – Sony’s next-generation portable game console. Supposedly will have graphics on par with Playstation 2. All I know is that the first Final Fantasy-branded title for this platform will be a movie, and the first Metal Gear title will be a fucking card game. I am severely underwhelmed at the moment.

Confused yet? :-)

Java 5.0

In honor of Sun’s decision to rename Java 1.5 to Java 5.0 I am officially renaming iRooster 1.2 to be iRooster version 20.0. Also, in honor of Apple, this release must be referred to as iRooster XX. I intend to release iRooster XXX within a few months. This release will be restricted to Vin Diesel fans and those over the age of 18 (or 21 in some states).

Just a good week

This has been a pretty damned good week for me:

– Four day weekend.
– My birthday is on Sunday (22, in case you were curious).
– New car tomorrow.
– Massage tomorrow at four.
– Finally done with performance reviews.
– Visual Studio 2005 Beta 1 finally fucking shipped.
– (Count em, ) two releases of iRooster this week.
– I’m now down to $3500 in credit card debt (let’s ignore the fact that I pay $19k for a car tomorrow, eh?).
– Summertime in Seattle is absolutely beautiful (let’s not forget that).

Woo-hoo! All around, life is going quite well for me.
