Hi Robert - I'm not blaming you. I think you were part of the hype cycle, and perhaps representative of it, but certainly not the cause of it. I thought Longhorn was going to be awesome, too. As it stands, I still think Vista (for what it is) is a pretty great OS, but I hasten to draw a distinction between Vista and Longhorn.

I don't know if some compliance officer is going to fix anything, but there clearly needs to be a change from the top all the way down to the bottom of Windows to ensure that expectations are set correctly across the organization. If Steve and Julie think that some compliance officer is the best way to do it, then more power to them.

I never heard about the Ribbon leaking. I'd love to see a link. Have one?

Keep in mind that those prototypes I saw were shown to a bunch of MVP's and were then, later shown to everyone at PDC which had 8,000 attendees. THAT is what overhyped Longhorn, not what I wrote.

How is a new officer going to change that? Hint: it won't.

And Microsoft isn't compartmentalized like Apple is, so more stuff will leak out of Microsoft.

Why didn't the Office ribbon leak? It did. I saw people talking about the new UI way before I ran a video with the designer of it. But it wasn't exciting enough to really talk about. Certainly it wasn't something like a new iPhone.
